PLN 400 million to support projects in the areas of onshore and offshore wind energy and energy use of geothermal heat will be allocated by Poland’s National Centre for Research and Development under the announced 3rd competition of the Strategic Programme for Scientific Research and Development Works ‘New Technologies in the Field of Energy’ – NTE. Consortia whose projects will be characterised by high innovative potential and a high degree of technology advancement can apply for the funds. The call for applications will open on 16 September.
The European Green Deal is the basis for initiatives aimed at achieving climate neutrality, understood as zero net greenhouse gas emissions, by the European Union by 2050. Priority actions on the road to climate neutrality in line with the Green Deal include, among others, a transition to clean and secure energy, a transition to a closed-loop economy, energy-efficient construction, sustainable mobility, as well as broad environmental protection with reduced air, water and soil pollution and improved waste management.
The Strategic Research and Development Programme ‘New Technologies in the Field of Energy’ of the National Centre for Research and Development was established to support the achievement of Poland’s climate neutrality through the implementation of solutions enhancing the country’s energy security and increasing the competitiveness of Polish economy, which in turn should contribute to an increase in the share of energy derived from RES.
The specific objectives of the Programme, into which the thematic scope of the competition fits, are:
C1 growth of the potential of the renewable energy industry (including prosumer energy);
C2 development of smart grid (energy) infrastructure;
C3 decarbonisation of the energy sector through increased use of biodegradable raw materials and waste products.
– We are observing dynamic development of the market of renewable energy sources, which confirms the necessity of increasing investments in this area. In the context of Poland’s energy transition, which is crucial for our country, innovative projects in the area of onshore and offshore wind energy, as well as in the area of energetic use of geothermal heat (geothermal), are extremely important for the development of the RES sector in Poland. The share of RES in the energy mix in Poland is steadily increasing. The resulting projects will form the basis of initiatives aimed at achieving climate neutrality by the European Union by 2050, which we at the National Centre for Research and Development are constantly striving to achieve by implementing numerous projects in the Green Deal area, supporting the country’s energy transition. In this competition, we are therefore looking for sources of energy of the future, with great potential in Polish conditions, emphasised Prof. Dr. hab. Eng. Jerzy Małachowski, Director of the National Centre for Research and Development.
What budget and for whom?
The NCRD will allocate PLN 400 million to support projects in the third competition ‘New technologies in the field of energy’- NTE. This amount has been divided between two thematic areas, i.e. PLN 200 million for the area of onshore and offshore wind energy and PLN 200 million for the area of Energy use of geothermal heat, the so-called geothermal. It is important that projects submitted to the competition are distinguished by their high innovative potential and technological advancement.
Applications will be available from 16 September 2024 until 15 November 2024 (by 16:00), exclusively via the LSI electronic system.
The time to complete the project will be a maximum of 60 months per phase.
