Poland’s Bank Ochrony Środowiska (Bank for Environmental Protection) has subscribed to Polenergia’s green bonds in the amount of PLN 90 million. Polenergia Group is Poland’s largest private energy group and a leader in the market of renewable energy producers (RES). The funds from the bonds are to be used, among other things, to finance the development of offshore wind energy.
BOŚ’s mission is to support Polish companies in the energy transition process. The bond issue of Polenergia, Poland’s largest private energy group, fits perfectly with the bank’s strategy. Polenergia will use most of the funds raised to build offshore wind farms. The two most advanced projects, Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3, with a total capacity of 1440 MW, have complete construction permits. The Bałtyk offshore wind farms are one of the largest infrastructure projects in Poland’s history. Polenergia is developing it together with Norwegian energy giant Equinor.
– BOŚ is a bank that has specialized in financing and supporting the green transition in Poland for more than 30 years. We are extremely proud to have been able to support our partner Polenergia in financing this very green investment, which, as we see it, will absolutely contribute to further decarbonizing the Polish economy. Wind energy is an important part of the energy transition and, despite the challenges, we believe that wind power plants will play a significant role in the decarbonization of the energy sector in Poland – said Krzysztof Łabowski, deputy chairman of the board of Bank Ochrony Środowiska S.A..
– There is no greener energy group on the Polish market today than Polenergia. We have been building wind and photovoltaic farms in Poland for years, and we are also one of the leaders in offshore wind energy. This makes Polenergia a company made for issuing green bonds. The spectacular success of the issue shows that investors want to take an active part in Poland’s energy transition. Offshore wind farms will change the face of the Polish energy sector and the Polish economy. We feel immense pride that we can participate in such an important process and cooperate in its implementation with such recognized partners as Bank Ochrony Środowiska – said Piotr Maciołek, member of the board of Polenergia S.A.
Bank Ochrony Środowiska, for more than 30 years, has been supporting entrepreneurs by providing loans both under its own financing and with EU funding. The bank’s support can be counted on by all entities that intend to invest in pro-environmental projects, such as RES installations, purchase of energy storage facilities, thermal modernization of buildings or modernization of production lines, construction of biogas plants.
