PGE Baltica, a PGE Group company, has signed an agreement with a consortium of companies: Geofizyka Toruń S.A., Przedsiębiorstwo Geologiczne GEOPROJEKT Szczecin sp. z o.o. and “PROJMORS” Biuro Projektów Budownictwa Morskiego sp. z o.o. to perform geological surveys, including geotechnical and geophysical surveys and resultant documentation for the land-sea drilling for the Baltica 1 offshore wind farm.

Geological reconnaissance of the area is an essential element of the investment process related to the construction of offshore wind farms. The geotechnical and geophysical surveys conducted are aimed at a thorough examination of the ground for the future investment. As a result of the research, documentation will be created, which is necessary to create a soil model necessary for the proper design of the land-sea cable crossing for the Baltica 1 offshore wind farm.

The scope of work includes geological studies, including geotechnical and geophysical surveys. As for onshore surveys, the contract includes, among others : CPTU soundings, piezometric surveys, magnetometric surveys, seismic refraction tomography, electrical resistivity tomography and GPR surveys. As for offshore surveys, on the other hand, min. CPTU sounding, seismic refraction tomography, bathymetric surveys and sediment profilometer (SBP) surveys are planned. In addition, laboratory testing of soil and water samples taken during drilling is planned. The surveys will begin in the second quarter of this year.

The Baltica 1 offshore wind farm project, with a capacity of about 0.9 GW, is one of three projects currently under construction by the PGE Group in the Baltic Sea, located about 80 km from the coastline, roughly at the level of the town of Leba in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. Among other things, the project already has a location permit and connection agreement in place, and the first full year of wind, sea current and ripple studies behind it. PGE Baltica has this year started ground investigation for the onshore part of the project and signed a contract for preliminary geotechnical studies of the seabed. The Baltica 1 offshore wind farm project will be commissioned after 2030.

The next two projects are Baltica 2 and Baltica 3, which together will form the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm with a total capacity of 2.5 GW the PGE Group is implementing together with Ørsted. The Baltica 2 stage, with a capacity of about 1.5 GW, is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027, while the Baltica 3 stage, with a capacity of about 1 GW, is scheduled to be completed by 2030.
