The Danish Energy Agency initiates the second public phase and opens for comments on the draft plan for Kattegat and Kriegers Flak II and the associated environmental report. Public meetings will be held in Rødvig (Zealand) on 14 May and in Grenå (Jutland) on 16 May 2024.
The Danish Energy Agency invites citizens, companies, authorities and others with an interest in the two future offshore wind farms and associated onshore facilities to comment on the draft plan for Kattegat and Kriegers Flak II and the associated environmental report and ask questions.
The consultation will run for a period of eight weeks – from Wednesday 1 May to Wednesday 26 June 2024.
The Kattegat and Kriegers Flak II offshore wind farms are among the six large offshore wind farms that the Danish Energy Agency has put out to tender on 22 April 2024.
Kattegat and Kriegers Flak II will together produce power equivalent to the electricity consumption of at least two million households. Both sites allow for so-called overplanting, so that even more offshore wind can be installed, for example for the production of Power-to-X.
In connection with the consultation, public meetings will be held on Zealand and in Jutland, where the results of the environmental report will be presented:
Zealand: Tuesday 14 May 2024 from 16:30-18:30 at Rødvig Kro og Badehotel, Østersøvej 8, 4673 Rødvig, Stevns. There will be a presentation at 17:00, focusing on Kriegers Flak II.
Jutland: Thursday 16 May 2024 from 16:30-18:30 at Kysthotellet Djursland, Kystvej 26, 8500 Grenå. There will be a presentation at 17:00 with focus on Kattegat.

The further process for the offshore wind farms
After the consultation, the Danish Energy Agency will review the consultation responses and update the plan if necessary. The Danish Energy Agency will then prepare a summary report, which will be published together with the final plan.
In connection with the specific projects on land and sea, an environmental impact assessment of the projects must be carried out. Here, the significant environmental impacts must be highlighted and the public must be involved before a construction licence can be granted.
The final tender documents for the offshore wind farms will be published on 22 April 2024 with a deadline of 1 April 2025.
Facts about Kattegat
The environmental assessment of the Kattegat plan highlights the potential environmental impact of between 1,000 and 2,460 MW of offshore wind turbines in the entire area. The capacity of the offshore wind farm depends on the specific project of the licence winner.
Kattegat consists of an area of approximately 122 km2 in the Danish Exclusive Economic Zone of Kattegat.
The offshore wind farm is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2030 at the latest.
The offshore wind turbines will be located in the Kattegat approximately 27 km from Anholt, approximately 15 km from Djursland and approximately 25 km from the coast of Odsherred Municipality, Northwest Zealand.
The offshore wind farm is expected to be connected to the public grid in Trige, Jutland.
The environmental assessment of the plan highlights at a general level the possibility of establishing adjacent innovation facilities, including PtX facilities in connection with the offshore wind farm.
The specific projects at sea and on land will still require an environmental impact assessment, and therefore a construction licence (§25 licence).
The winner of the tender will construct both the offshore and onshore wind farm projects up to the grid connection point.
Facts about Kriegers Flak II
The environmental assessment of the Kriegers Flak II plan highlights the potential environmental impact of a number of offshore wind turbines corresponding to between 1,000 and 3,450 MW in the entire area. The capacity of the offshore wind farm depends on the specific project of the licence winner.
Kriegers Flak II consists of an area of approximately 173 km2 in the Danish Exclusive Economic Zone of the Baltic Sea.
The wind farm is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2030 at the latest.
Offshore wind turbines in the northern part of Kriegers Flak II will need to be located approximately 15 kilometres from Rødvig in East Zealand and approximately 15 kilometres from Møn. Offshore wind turbines in the southern part of Kriegers Flak II will be located approximately 15 kilometres from Møn.
The offshore wind farm is expected to be connected to the public grid via South East Zealand.
