Ocean Winds has reached two important milestones in the BC-Wind offshore wind farm project being developed in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea. The survey campaign of the seabed at the BC-Wind site and the export cable route has been completed after nearly 12 months of intensive work. In addition, the nearshore geophysical and geotechnical survey campaign, which lasted less than 9 months, was completed at the end of the month.
During this time, geophysical and geotechnical surveys were carried out, including bathymetry of the farm area, boreholes with soil sampling, and CPTu probe surveys, which use a cone probe to penetrate the seafloor, enabling an in-depth understanding of its mechanical and geological properties. The contractor for the offshore survey work was Gardline Limited Ltd, while the nearshore survey was carried out by GeoFusion Group Ltd.
The nearshore geophysical and geotechnical survey campaign was also completed at the end of March. The scope of work included surveys of the seabed for the installation of cables in the nearshore HDD section and the connection of the offshore wind farm to onshore infrastructure. The surveys included geophysical measurements such as bathymetry (MBES), side scan sonar imaging (SSS), magnetometry (MAG), seismic reflection and refraction, electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), as well as geotechnical surveys, including sampling operations and cone penetrometer testing (CPTu) to a depth of no more than 45 meters. We are currently awaiting the results of laboratory testing of soil and water samples, as well as documentation work. The test results will be the foundation for the next design stages.
