Intensive construction work is underway on the service base for Baltic Power’s future offshore wind farms. ERBUD is responsible for the work. The company boasted photos of the construction site on LinkedIn.
From 2026, the base will service 76 turbines that will make up the first Baltic Power wind farm. The amount of energy they generate will be equivalent to the electricity consumption of more than 1.5 million households. The Baltic Power wind farm, being built by a consortium of PKN ORLEN and Northland Power, is to consist of 76 wind turbines, each more than 200 metres high.
The farm will cover an area of more than 130 square kilometres, about 23 kilometres north of the Baltic Sea coastline, at the level of Łeba and Choczew.
The service base for the Baltic Power farm, which will be built in the Łeba harbour area, will be the centre for its daily operation and maintenance. The location is of primary importance in this case – the base must be close to the area where the farm is located to ensure the shortest possible response time for service teams. In this case, it will be about 40 minutes needed to get from Łeba to the farm area.
ERBUD will be responsible for the construction of the base, which has begun in 2023. As the general contractor, ERBUD will carry out, among other things, preparation of the investment site, hydro-technical works related to the reconstruction of the wharf and the construction of the base building complex with its infrastructure. There will be 3-4 CTVs (Crew Transport Vessel) permanently stationed at the base, i.e. vessels designed for the transport of service personnel. Each CTV can take up to 24 technicians and necessary equipment on board at any one time. Up to 50 people responsible for the maintenance and operation of the offshore wind farm will work in the base, which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
ERBUD recalls that the activities include construction of a building consisting of a 2-storey office and social part and a 1-storey storage part, construction of a gatehouse building with an adjacent shelter and fencing of the investment area, reconstruction of the Słowiński Wharf with dredging and strengthening of the bottom and construction of a new wharf plate, as well as the installation of a 30m high technical mast.
ERBUD has thirty years of experience in the implementation of construction projects in, among others, areas of energy and hydraulic engineering in Poland and Europe. For the implementation of this investment, the contractor expects to employ approximately 100 employees. All suppliers and subcontractors whose services ERBUD plans to use, more than 20 companies, are entities registered in Poland. Thus, the construction of the base will contribute to the development of the local value chain for the offshore wind sector.
Baltic Power is the most advanced offshore wind farm project in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea. It is a project that will also have one of the highest local content ratios over the entire approx. 25-30 year life cycle of the farm, i.e. at the stage of preparation, construction and operation of the farm. The project aims to achieve a 20 to 30 per cent share of local content, which is in line with the declarations contained in the so-called Sector Agreement.
