CERTIFICATION WILL INCLUDE A COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT OF THE PROJECT AT ALL STAGES OF IMPLEMENTATION, FROM DESIGN TO COMMISSIONING, ENSURING COMPLIANCE WITH THE HIGHEST SAFETY AND QUALITY STANDARDS.
AS PART OF THE CERTIFICATION PROCESS, TWO KEY CERTIFICATES REQUIRED BY POLISH LAW WILL BE ISSUED.

Warsaw, 21 October 2024: Ocean Winds, a joint venture formed by EDPR and ENGIE dedicated to offshore wind energy, has signed an agreement with Bureau Veritas Polska Sp. z o.o. to carry out the certification of the Polish BC-Wind offshore wind farm project. The certification will be carried out in accordance with IECRE OD-502:2018 scheme and applicable Polish legislation, including the Maritime Safety Act of 18 August 2011.

‘We decided to choose Bureau Veritas Polska as the certifier for our BC-Wind project because of their experience in offshore project certification and their professionalism, which they have already proven when working together on other OW projects such as Moray West and Moray East. We are confident that our cooperation with Bureau Veritas will contribute to the highest standards of safety and quality, which is a priority for us in any project’ – Kacper Kostrzewa, BC-Wind project director, Ocean Winds.

The certification of the BC-Wind wind farm will include a compliance assessment at every stage of implementation, including design, manufacturing, installation, transportation and commissioning. As part of the certification process, two key certificates required by Polish law will be issued: Certificate of Design Conformity, which will confirm the compliance of the design documentation with technical standards, and Certificate of Release to Operate, which will ensure that the construction process is in line with the design and will allow the wind farm to commence operation.

The signed agreement with Bureau Veritas Polska will ensure that the BC-Wind project is implemented in accordance with the highest industry standards and international safety standards. As part of this cooperation, all components of the wind farm – from turbines to foundations to export cables – will meet stringent technical requirements, allowing the wind farm to operate safely and efficiently for many years to come.

‘I am extremely pleased that our commitment to the development of wind energy in the Polish market has resulted in a partnership with Ocean Winds. Providing services to support investments in wind energy, in particular offshore wind farms, is one of the key pillars of our corporate strategy LEAP 28 for the coming years. As of 2022, Bureau Veritas is one of the first organisations authorised by the Minister of Infrastructure to certify offshore wind farms in Poland. We believe that combining our global experience with local commitment will allow us to effectively support the BC-Wind project’ – Piotr Kosznik, Director of Innovation, Sustainable Development, responsible for sales in the PBCU region (Poland, Baltic States, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine)

BC-Wind is an offshore wind farm project located approximately 23 kilometres north of the coast at the height of the Krokowa and Choczewo communes in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. The project has a planned capacity of up to 500 MW, with a total farm area of 90.94 km². The BC-Wind farm is at an advanced stage of development and is one of the key projects in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea. The project currently has an environmental decision for the offshore and onshore parts, as well as differential contract rights (CfD). The current priority is to contract the key suppliers of the BC-Wind offshore wind farm components and to plan the service base.
