A new chapter in the history of the city and the region has begun in Leba, where wind and sea have shaped the landscape for years. On Tuesday, 4 March 2025, the foundation stone was symbolically laid for the construction of an operations and maintenance base for the offshore wind farms Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3. This is a strategic investment by Equinor that strengthens the region’s position as an important offshore wind energy centre in Poland, as well as an opportunity to develop the labour market and co-operation with the local supply chain.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of local authorities, key stakeholders, base contractors and representatives of Equinor and Polenergia, which are partners in the development of the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms. Symbolic coins and a local newspaper were placed in a specially prepared time capsule alongside the foundation act. A memento prepared in this way for future generations, completing the tradition, was walled up under the construction of a new operations and maintenance base in Leba.
The new base will ensure the operation and servicing of the Baltic offshore wind farms for decades, and will employ highly qualified specialists.
Źródło: Equinor– Today in Leba, we are laying the foundation stone for our new operations and service base. This is not only a symbolic step, but also the beginning of a new chapter in the development of offshore wind energy in Poland. The base under construction will be a state-of-the-art operations and maintenance centre for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms. This investment will not only strengthen our operational capabilities in the region, but will also create new jobs and contribute to the development of the local economy. We believe that this emerging infrastructure will enhance the country’s energy security. Let this cornerstone be a symbol of our joint work in building a sustainable future – says Michał Jerzy Kołodziejczyk, President of the Management Board of Equinor Polska.
The operations and maintenance base, to be built by Erbud, will be constructed on a revitalised port area. A modern, environmentally and people-friendly office space, a remote control and control centre for offshore wind farms, a warehouse for spare parts and a quay for mooring vessels will stand on the site of a former shipyard. Preparatory work on the site of the future base has already started in late 2024 and early 2025. Construction of the facilities is scheduled for March 2025, with commissioning in mid-2026.
The design of the base was prepared by the Gdańsk-based architectural bureau B-CA. The architectural concept is to create a building that is climate-neutral and makes maximum use of the potential of renewable energy sources and locally available raw materials. In this way, Equinor emphasises its commitment and contribution to the local community and economy.
Supplier Day for the Operations and Maintenance Base in Leba
Equinor and Polenergia invite Polish companies and companies registered in Poland to participate in the Supplier Day. The event will take place on 2 April 2025 at the Gdańsk Business Incubator “STARTER”. This time it will focus on the search for suppliers of servicing and maintenance of offshore wind farms for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects, which will be operated from the base in Łeba.
Participation in the Supplier Day is free of charge, but pre-registration is required, which will last until 17 March. The registration form and details of the meeting are available at the link: registration and at www.baltyk123.pl.
